Ateneum Research Library

The Ateneum Research Library is open by appointment on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 to 16:00. Requests for material and bookings to use the microfilm reader should be made well in advance. For enquiries, requests for material, and appointment bookings, email tutkimus@kansallisgalleria.fi.

The Ateneum Research Library has a wealth of historical research and source material. Materials were added to our library collection long before the Ateneum building was completed in 1887. The operations of the current research library support research into works held by the Ateneum Art Museum and into Finnish art in general. The research library also has literature on art conservation.

At the Ateneum Research Library, you can also explore the materials of the Sinebrychoff Art Museum, including literature on old international art. The materials are related to the Fanny and Paul Sinebrychoff house museum and the museum’s art collection and exhibitions.
